John’s Artistry
VARIETY OF WORK SPANNING A PERIOD OF OVER 20 YEARS
John, as an artist was known as an interpreter of dreams. He allowed a variety of influences to direct his imagination and carving hands. From his love of folklore and history to just plain fantasy and imaginings. John had a wonderful career as a sculptor with wood being his choice of medium even when his hands hurt from carpel tunnel syndrome and he had to work in wax to make bronzes they still didn’t quite speak to him like working in the wood. He was home handling the wood and he was home when strolling through the woods. The woods had called him from a young age and he earned the title “Wizard of Wood” in the 1980s from the Washington Star newspaper.
